Briefly about electrodes

In order that the decoding of the electrodes does not seem so complicated, it is necessary to study what the welding electrode consists of.
Welding electrode-conductive material in the form of a rod on which protective material of different types is applied. The rod must conduct a current for welding the product using the apparatus. All electrodes can be divided into two types: melting and non-melting. It is always a refractory material, for example, tungsten. The melt is made of wire of the type: carbonaceous, alloyed, highly alloyed.
All electrodes are manufactured in accordance with GOST 9466-75 and they can be classified according to:
  1. Materials from which they are produced;
  2. Different purposes;
  3. The thickness of the coating that is applied;
  4. Type of protective coating;
  5. Features of slag formation;
  6. The properties of the formed seam;
  7. Type of current used in the process;
  8. Position during welding.
The manufacturing technique is as follows: a protective layer is applied to the rod by means of crimping. This coating is necessary in order to protect the seam from the weathering effects, by forming a weld pool to ensure a stable arc burning.
All electrodes should be easily ignited, have a stable arc burning, evenly melt, and after welding there should be easy removal of slag and absence of pores and cracks.
